Cucumber: sambar: Dosakkai type
Description
One of our lovely customers requested this interesting vegetable! These plants are easy to grow and productive. Fruits are yellow-orange with green spots or stripes. This “cucumber” is actually much closer to a melon rather than a cucumber. It can be eaten both raw and cooked, but typically the seeds and skin are removed as they can be bitter. Seeds of India says “Another cooking cucumber (Dosakkai type) from Andhra Pradesh. Delicious when used in the preparation of Sambar, the signature lentil chowder of South India.”
